Mpeera Gloria Sebitosi’s Impact Story
When I first came across Mazungumzo in 2021, I was a freshly minted Lawyer trying to navigate post-grad uncertainty. I had energy but needed a vehicle to channel that energy into something of value. Through one of Mazungumzo’s members, I was introduced to the Mazungumzo Book Club, where young people were devouring books like Dr. Meg Jay’s “The Defining Decade: Why Your Twenties Matter and How to Make the Most of Them.” I soon realized that my search for a purpose beyond self was not solitary. I was not alone.
Inspired by Mazungumzo’s work through its various programs, including The Youth Baraza—a safe space bringing youth together for intellectual discourse—and the Mazungumzo Outreaches giving back to the community, I wanted to be a part of the action! An opportunity arose when I was selected to join the pioneer Mazungumzo Class, themed “Living a Meaningful Life.” The class is a group of unique individuals from various walks of life, including doctors, lawyers, and social workers, united by our passion for community building.
From this class, I have learned how to contribute to positive change through advocacy and activism. It has enabled me to engage in social justice efforts to address inequalities. The class has bridged divides by connecting us with fellow activists across the continent, such as South Africa’s Leonah Ndlovu, to discuss and tackle the issues we collectively face as Africans.
I can confidently say that I found my vehicle in the Mazungumzo Class, which has firmly set me on the path to discovering my purpose. With the knowledge and leadership skills I have gained from the class, I am sure I will find this purpose sooner rather than later, all while championing the causes that truly matter to me.
Mazungumzo is on a mission to create an organization rooted in the community, with outreach programs to empower and uplift vulnerable populations. We are looking for passionate individuals like you to help us turn this mission into reality. Join us in effecting real change and forging a brighter future for all.
